We've had several of our 15 Day Free Trial users write in with questions pertaining to the world of email marketing. We would like to take this opportunity to answer a few of the more frequent questions we've received thus far. Does iContact sell lists? No, iContact does not sell lists. In fact, all of our iContact software users must agree to only sending permission-based email newsletters upon signup via the End User License Agreement (EULA). Therefore, our subscribers are prohibited from using purchased lists (opt-in or other) in conjunction with any iContact service. Why does iContact have this policy? If you send any unsolicited email in bulk, it will be considered as spam, regardless of its contents. Alternatively, by sending emails to only to those who have requested to receive them, you are following accepted permission-based email guidelines. If iContact allowed a client to send unsolicited emails through our servers, or if we did not strictly enforce our Anti-Spam policy, our IP address and domain would be added to blacklists. This would negatively effect the delivery rates for all of our clients. How many emails can I send out per month? You can send a volume of up to six times the number of subscribers in your plan. In other words, through the $9.95/month plan, you can have up to 250 subscribers, which means you can send up to 1,500 emails. Why does iContact limit the number of emails you can send? The message limit is for the protection of our users, since it is normally considered 'spamming' to send more than six messages per month to the same contact. You can read about how our clients are protected by iContact's strict Anti-Spam Policy at www.icontact.com/terms/antispam/. What is "double opt-in?" Double opt-in refers to the process of requiring new subscribers to confirm their interest in joining a specific list by clicking on a link within an initial confirmation email. A list that requires users to double opt-in in will generally have much lower spam complaint rates, lower unsubscribe rates, higher response rates, and lower bounce rates. As such, a number of email-newsletter publishers are transitioning to the double opt-in method for newsletter subscription processes. Are the emails I send going to end up in the junk mail folder? iContact has industry-leading email delivery rates of 98%-99% as scored by Pivotal Veracity, a third party company. We have consistently proven to keep our promise to provide superior deliverability. Did you know that iContact is on an average of zero blacklists? We know that our competition just cannot say the same. We have achieved top deliverability ratings, have established relations with the major ISPs, and have been whitelisted with AOL, Yahoo, Earthlink, Netzero, and Juno, ensuring continued maximum deliverability. What does "permission-based" mean? Permission-based email marketing occurs when emails are only sent to persons who have requested to receive them. On the other hand, "spam" involves sending out any unsolicited email promotions. Permission based email marketing is effectively used every day by hundreds of thousands of organizations to build the value of their brands, increase sales, and strengthen the relationships they have with their clients and subscribers. The key element is that these organizations are only sending messages to persons who have requested to receive them. We hope that this has been valuable to you, and that we have answered some of your questions.
